CANNA (Cannaceae)
(INDIAN SHOT.) These tropical plants are becoming increasingly popular and are easy to grow. Grow in full sun and water generously in summer. Stand plants in a drip tray in very shallow water will help keep plants healthy during hot dry spells & spray the leaves with water during cool parts of the day to revitalise the foliage. Lift the tubers or move plants grown in pots indoors when the leaves are first frosted in autumn. Due to Canna virus, we have reduced our stock, but may have various cultivars on sale from time to time.

CESTRUM (Solanaceae)
Genus of frost hardy and frost tender shrubs (refer to both the Hardy shrub and Conservatory section of this catalogue for our full range). They are found in open woodland in Mexico, central and Southern America and are principally grown for their fragrant flowers and ornamental berries. Grow hardier species in well drained soil in sun or part shade in a sheltered spot. Grow the more tender species in a loam based compost with added grit and protect from very hot sun in summer. Most are hardy enough to be placed outdoors for the summer at least.

CURCUMA (Zingiberaceae)

The large wide green leaves emerge (late spring), with a central red stripe. Hidden amongst the emerging leaves are the flowers - pinky/green bracts contain scented yellow flowers. CUSSONIA (Araliaceae)
(MOUNTAIN CABBAGE TREE.) Related to and similar in habit to the more familiar Schefflera, but with grey leaves often resembling snowflakes, these make unusual specimen plants for a sunny conservatory. Grow in loam based compost in good light. Keep on dry side in winter. Min. 2°C, but best kept above 5° C. Capable of growing to tree-sized proportions, but can be kept much smaller in a pot.
