Syn. Elegia tectorum. Traditionally used to thatch rooves in South Africa, here it is grown as an ormanental plant. Forms clumps of upright rush-like leaves topped by brownish flowers. Do not prune, other than to remove dead growth and old stems, and avoid damage to the new growth. Hardy in coastal or mild gardens, otherwise does well in a pot.
