Plants for sale at Shrubland Park Nurseries

Welcome to Shrubland Park Nurseries

Shrubland Park Nurseries is a family-run business in the heart of Suffolk, situated in the grand surroundings of Shrubland Park.

Browse through our plant catalogue, and you will discover our unique selection of plants, from hardy perennials (not only cottage garden favourites but also more unusual plants), ornamental grasses , shrubs & climbers and a selection of hardy ferns. Come and explore one of the largest collections of sub-tropical and exotic conservatory plants and succulents in Suffolk. Many of these half-hardy plants are suitable for those of you lucky enough to garden in a Mediterranean climate.

Our stock varies throughout the year, depending on weather and demand, so repeat visits are worthwhile.

We are not a garden centre, we run a "proper" nursery, propagating, growing and selling our own plants. We welcome amateur and experienced gardeners alike and pride ourselves in presenting a clean and tidy nursery with a friendly, informal atmosphere. Our staff are friendly and have an intimate knowledge of the plants we grow and are more than happy to give advice. For more details see visit us.

Opening times

Summer (From Easter to September 30th 2008):

Wednesday to Sunday, 10am - 5pm

Winter (From 1st November to Easter):

Friday, Saturday & Sunday. 10am to 3pm

PLUS TUESDAY 23rd & WEDNESDAY 24th DECEMBER 2008

VERY IMPORTANT! Please ring us first, during our opening times, if you are looking for a particular plant, or have a list of plants. We do not necessarily have all the plants listed in our catalogue at any one time, or they may not be out in our sales areas.

The best time to visit us for indoor plants is from early June - many of our tender plants take part in the Suffolk Show in late May, after which they return to the nursery for sale. Also, much of our stock is overwintered as small plants or cuttings in our propagator, and are usually potted and prepared for sale in May, though this is dependant on the weather.

We start putting hardy plants out in early spring, the majority being out by May. Our range varies throughout the year, so repeat visits are recommended. (Plants are available by mail order most of the year, subject to weather.)

Also, please ring if:

  • wish to visit outside official opening times. During the growing season, we are usually around on Monday & Tuesday.
  • are traveling a long distance, as there may be very rare occasions when the nursery is closed for reasons beyond our control .
  • would like specialist advice about plants. This is just to check that the relevant member of staff will be around.
  • would like us to prepare a list of plants for a specific area, colour scheme etc.
  • are unsure how to find us - see map
  • are a wheelchair user - we can give you parking directions & make sure there is someone on hand to assist you if required. Most of the nursery is paved with the exception of the Walled Garden which has gravel paths. We have endeavoured to make the Nursery as wheelchair friendly as possible. Please feel free to ring us for further details.

Shrubland Park Plant Fair

Due to the sale of Shrubland Park we regret that we are unable to hold this year's event. For the same reason, the gardens will remain closed during 2008. Please check from time to time for developments.

Nursery Location

Being very close to the A14 makes us easily accessible to visitors from Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire. We are only 15 minutes from Ipswich town centre and approximately 45 minutes from Norwich, Bury St. Edmunds and Colchester (see visit us and map).

Important note about availability

Because of their nature, most tender plants are sensitive to the cold, and don't like being moved out of their winter quarters, and potted on as early as the hardy plants. For this reason, some of the plants in our catalogue may be subject to delays. The catalogue reflects the range of plants we hope to have throughout the year, rather than what we have in stock at any one time, especially early in the year.

Group visits.

We welcome visits from Gardening Clubs, Horticultural Societies and other interested parties. We ask that this should be pre-arranged so we can ensure enough staff will be on hand. For a small charge we can usually offer refreshments in the form of a cup of Coffee or Tea and (if requested well in advance of a visit) a slice of home-made cake. If refreshments are required we need as much notice as possible. back to top

Mail Order

We are continuing with our personalised system of ordering, rather than going for online ordering. We feel this still reflects our operation, in as much as we can give you an indication of when plants which are out of stock may become available, discuss price, delivery etc. with you. See mail order terms & conditions.

Plant Sales

We hope to attend several Plant Sales & Shows during 2008, and can bring plant orders along for you to collect if you cannot get to the nursery.

We will continue to increase our range of plants for the discerning gardener, and to make our nursery a distinctive and pleasant place to visit.
