Always in demand, this remarkable succulent can grow to tree-like proportions, (but will need a very large tub to achieve this). It comes from a small area in South Africa which receives warm winter rainfall, and hot dry summers (i.e. a Mediterranean climate). This means it prefers water in winter, but this needs to be administered carefully, and reduced if temperatures are close to freezing.

Visitors to Madeira should visit the Botanical Gardens, where there is a beautiful specimen.
