BRUNFELSIA
AMERICANA (LADY OF THE NIGHT) A popular evergreen shrub from the West Indies, with white, ageing to pale yellow scented flowers, the scent being strongest in the evening. Capable of growing to around 5 metres in the open ground, so worthy of a fairly large pot, in rich but well-drained soil. John Innes No. 3 with some peat-based compost added should do. Feed during the growing season with tomato food to encourage flowering. Like other plants, they like to be outdoors in summer - a sunny/partially shaded spot near where you sit in the evening is ideal. The minimum temperature should be around 10 deg. C, though occasional dips below this shouldn't do any harm. |
