Visitor Information

The nursery will be open Bank Holiday Monday (May 3rd) from 10 til 3

OPENING TIMES FOR 2010 - THESE MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE:

FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS from 10am to 4pm from APRIL 2nd (GOOD FRIDAY) to SEPTEMBER 30TH.

PLEASE contact us. TO CHECK AVAILABILITY BEFORE VISITING IF YOU ARE MAKING A SPECIAL VISIT FOR PARTICULAR PLANTS. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT PLANTS ARE "LIVING STOCK" WHICH WE PROPAGATE OURSELVES AND AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE YEAR STOCK LEVELS CAN BECOME LOW AND TAKE A WHILE TO BUILD BACK UP. WE TRY TO KEEP OUR WEBSITE UP TO DATE AS MUCH AS WE CAN BUT THE VERY NATURE OF GROWING PLANTS MEANS IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A COMPLETELY ACCURATE STOCK CONTROL AT ALL TIMES.

The best time to visit us for Conservatory plants is from early June as most tender plants are overwintered in our propagator, and are usually potted and prepared for sale in May, though this is dependant on the weather.

We start putting hardy plants out in our sales areas in early spring, the majority being out by May. Our range varies throughout the year, so repeat visits are recommended.

contact us. If you:

  • wish to visit outside official opening times. During the growing season, we are usually around on days of the week other than those stated in our opening times including Bank Holidays.
  • are travelling a long distance, as there may be very rare occasions when the nursery is closed for reasons beyond our control .
  • especially if you are looking for a particular plant, or plants. We do not necessarily have all the plants listed in our catalogue at any one time, or they may not be out in our sales areas.
  • would like specialist advice about plants. This is just to check that the relevant member of staff will be around.
  • would like us to prepare a list of plants for a specific area, colour scheme etc.
  • are unsure how to find us.

DIRECTIONS:

MAP

The nursery is situated near Ipswich in Suffolk, in the grounds of Shrubland Park. From Junction 52 on the A14 (signed Claydon &  Gt. Blakenham), follow the road through the village of Claydon. Approx 1 mile from the centre of the village, there is a pub called the Sorrel Horse on the left.  (Look for our sign opposite the pub.) Turn into the Park via the gate directly opposite the Sorrel Horse. Continue up the drive for 3/4 a mile and turn sharp right at the top of the hill, opposite the Hall (signposted).

For Satalite Navigation use the postcode of the nearby Sorrel Horse Pub: IP6 0PG, to find the entrance, not the nursery postcode as we are off the main road and most Sat. Nav. systems fail to find us properly

Please drive with care through the park and remain in your vehicle until you reach the nursery as the main drive is not a public footpath.

Facilities

We regret we do not have toilet or refreshment facilities but we can fully recommend the Sorrel Horse Pub for lunch, which is situated opposite the main entrance into the Park.

Wheelchair Access

Most of the nursery is paved with the exception of the Walled Garden which has gravel paths. We have endeavoured to make the Nursery as Wheelchair friendly as possible but regret we do not have appropriate toilet facilities.

Children and Dogs

We welcome dogs and children at the nursery but ask parents to keep children with them at all times. We have a very friendly Springer Spaniel called Charlie who loves children and always greets with an enthusiastic wag of the tail! However if you are perturbed by dogs and would prefer he didn't come to greet you, please ring before visiting and we'll be happy to put him in the office for the duration of your visit
