(Rhamnus frangula.) Often found growing on damp ground with alders, hence the name. It is a handsome, thornless, deciduous, bushy shrub. Berries change colour from red to dark purple as they ripen. Agood bee plant and also a foodplant for the brimstone butterfly caterpillar (see also Rhamnus cathartica). 2.5 metres (8 feet).
