Chilean Guava, Murta, Murtilla.

(Myrtus ugni, Eugenia ugni.) An evergreen shrub with small leathery leaves (fragrant when crushed) and dainty pinkish white flowers followed by dark red berries, which are sweetly scented and can be made into jam. It was apparently greatly favoured by Queen Victoria. Grow in very well drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. Trim to shape after fruiting, or in spring after any risk of hard frosts. 1.5 metres (5 feet).
