Tall bearded Iris with large ruffled flowers sporting reddish and copper-bronze tones with a spicy scent. Height 75cm
Bearded Iris need full sun and a free draining soil. Raised beds or gravel gardens are ideal but anywhere that’s nice and sunny and a well-drained will do. Plant them shallowly with the rhizomes slightly exposed, they need a good baking. If they become buried this can inhibit flowering. Also make sure they do not become swamped by other plants which would shade the rhizomes.
They benefit from a high Phosphorous feed so in spring when they have started growing scatter some Bonemeal around them. Over time clumps can become congested, will flower less and can eventually stop flowering. So every 3-4 years lift and divide them after flowering, or by the end of summer. Break off the newer rhizomes around the edge of each clump and re-plant these. These are the parts which will flower next or the following year. Discard the older, withered central parts which have already flowered they are spent and won't flower again.
