A deciduous cultivar, the new leaves emerging a dusky brown, setting off the large pink-red flowers in spring. After the flowers the leaves become more green and provide superb ground cover for the rest of the year. One of the Asian Epimediums, this appreciates more moisture in the soil, so would prefer to be associated with ferns and Hostas in humus rich cool soil, rather than planted under shrubs.
