A tree-dwelling cactus from Mexico, sporting curiously shaped stems - these are flat with distinct zigzag shaped edges. Either train it up a suitable support such as a moss pole, or let it trail from a hanging basket. Strongly scented flowers appear in spring and autumn when the day length resembles that of its native habitat. They open late at night and will be shrivelled by the following morning. Needs an open compost peat based with added bark and shade from hot sun, though too much shade reduces flowering.
