Hardy perennials are the mainstay of the herbaceous border, giving colour through the year for very litte effort and attracting bees and butterflies into the garden.
A mildew-resistant cultivar, neat and low-growing, and covered with pink flowers in autumn. Good in normal to dry-ish soils, sun to part-shade.

A mildew-resistant cultivar, producing masses of lavender-blue flowers in late summer and autumn. Looks lovely paired with Aster (Eurybia) divaricata, in a partly shaded spot.
An upright cultivar growing to about 2 feet, with masses of dainty white flowers in the autumn. Sun, but will also cheer up a slightly shaded border.
A superb perennial for autumn colour with violet-blue daisies with yellow centres from September to October. Makes a huge clump which is absolutely smothered with flowers!

A popular cultivar with dense plumes of long lasting deep red flowers over dark green foliage in early summer.
