Hardy perennials are the mainstay of the herbaceous border, giving colour through the year for very litte effort and attracting bees and butterflies into the garden.
Evergreen perennial with large leathery deep green leaves and short stems of delicately, scented tubular white flowers April-May.
A cultivar with smaller oval leaves, topped with pink flowers in spring.
An aromatic perennial making soft mounds of scented, grey leaves & masses of pale blue flowers throughout summer. A great filler for a sunny border and highly attractive to Bees.
This British native produces cheerful, shiny, yellow flowers in spring. For shallow water or a bog garden.
A tall perennial with soft lilac-pink, upward facing star-shaped flowers from June to September. Good cut flower. Attracts bees.
A delightful little perennial with masses of violet-blue, upward facing, bell-shaped flowers.
Excellent plant for a dry, sunny border with papery lilac-blue flower heads, to 2 ins across, from July to September.
Stout upright stems bear large fluffy yellow flowers to 5cm across from June to September. Needs fertile soil and plenty of moisture in summer.
Purple thistle-like flowers are produced on sturdy stems from June to Aug. Very good for a wildlife garden.
A lovely plant bringing a fresh feel to the early summer border. Light pink airy umbels of flowers rise above mounds of finely cut leaves.
