Clumps of tall spikes topped with masses of tiny purple-pink flowers from July to August. Lovely in drifts amongst grasses. Unusually, the flowers open from the top downwards. Needs well-drained soil, and may rot in heavy clay. Dies down to clumps of tuberous roots in the winter.
