This exotic bulb from Mexico produces large, orchid-like red flowers in spring to early summer. Plant 3-5 bulbs to a 12-14 inch diameter pot using a good loam based compost John Innes No.2 Feed with a liquid fertiliser every fortnight when in growth. They will tolerate low temperatures but not below freezing. It is best to grow them in pots and overwinter them indoors or a frost free greenhouse.
